Do mole bulbs work?
« on: January 15, 2012, 15:36 »
Well all I can say is that it looks like I have a mole hill within 6" of a bulb

I have no experience of the bulbs, but there are a few discussion threads on mole deterrents, if you do a forum search. :)

Doesn't look like they worked for you, The Swedish bulbs are supposed to work. http://www.ferndale-lodge.co.uk/Shop/Pest+Control/Anti-Mole+Bulbs+570412.htm.
But may be they have different moles to us  :D

Give me the grace to see a joke,

And pass it on to other folk.
Happy new year to you all xx

We have huge mole problems on the allotment site but I now swear by the battery powered mole "scarers" - bought several from B and Q a couple years ago, placed them strategically on the plot and have had no moles whatsoever on my plot since they went in.

Yes, I've had good results with the sonic scarers too. I might try a few of those bulbs though, just to see if they work on field mice, which are the bane of my life.

I have a lot more mice and voles than moles. I've planted a load of tulips and thought I'd try some mole bulbs to try and protect them - there are only just appearing so I don't yet know how many have been eaten - I'll let you know, but given that something ate every onion and shallot I planted, at least I know that some tuipis have survived.

After starting a thread on moles a few months ago I've wasted too much money on sonic deterrents and other rip-off products. I've now bought some scissor-traps. If they don't work I know a guy who still has some strychnine left from when it was banned several years ago

Alan - we do not advocate the usage of illegal/banned substances on this forum.

Please desist.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

You are of course correct and I am out of date. It's now aluminium phosphide he uses which is controlled but legal if the user is adequately trained

Still not a lot of use to the average amateur gardener then?

No, not unless the average gardener is at his/her wit's end and is prepared to pay £20 to have someone drop by and use it.

I imagine the fee is a lot more outside N Cumbria too

Are the moles on your allotment or garden because i am sure you would not be allowed to use any of the chemicals you speak of on the allotment. If they are in your garden then the neighbours, might not be pleased either .

We have several acres of land, a bit of which I've taken for allotment growing purposes. The only neighbour we have is at his wit's end with the little ****ers too

I'm not sure why you want to know but we own a field in which we keep our horses. I have taken and fenced off a double-allotment sized corner of this upon which I've erected a polytunnel with the rest of the space dedicated to vegetables and some soft fruit
