Damned Foxes are back :(
« on: January 12, 2012, 16:46 »
Beware everyone because it seems the foxes are back.  I dont know why maybe their natural foods running low now but I have just been up to put my remaining chooks to bed and a fox has got into the run killing eleven hens and only taking two away.

I had only checked these when I got home at two today and all was fine then!

What makes this worse is these were the last of my poultry that were off away to a good forum friend this weekend so lots of disapointment all round  :(

So double check your runs and coops folks especially as theres lots of cold weather on the way and those damned foxes are going to be looking for an easy meal.

This is not the way I wanted to end my poultry hobby  :(

Oh Min, I am so sorry, ending of a chicken's life is never fun, but that is such a sad way to go.  Poor little chooks.

Sorry to hear your bad news, but you will be pleased that the 3 Jubilee Orpingtons I collected  from you last weekend have all settled down OK.

I'm sure I read the other day that their local foxes had started doing their mating calls so yes they may be getting together a larder  :(

Yes, they're back here with a vengeance too. And to think that the nice Tony Blair spent more Parliamentary time on trying to stop the damned things from being hunted than he did on persuading the country that we needed to go to war against Iraq

please can we not turn this into a pro/anti hunting or anti labour/conservative debate and keep to the topic of the fact that foxes are yet again out hunting for food. It isn't their fault as they are doing what comes naturally -  but it is upto us to protect our birds and other pets as best we can  :)

Yes, of course you're right, and I don't favour either political side. But having said that they're a damned nuisance. Foxes that is, not politicians

What a horrible thing to happen, please don't let it put you off setting up again once you are settled in your new job and home.

Your quails are settled in well and as far as I can tell there are 3 females and 1 male.  They are still quite small but that might be the time of year.  Will try and post some photos if they will stay still enough for the camera.

I'm so sorry to hear about your hens Min.

It's such an awful way to find them.

I guess the foxes are working up an appetite with all that mating going on.  So sorry this ended badly for you.  But am very pleased to read that the remaining two are healthy and safe in their new home.
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Lost all 6 of mine about 4 weeks ago, found 1 body in next field, but no sign of other 5, lots of feathers and blood.

Waiting until spring then restocking again.
