Leaving second earlies in
« on: January 11, 2012, 22:49 »
Evening all.
Bought some kestrel second earlies today. Bought enough to feed an army really. Quick question, can I leave some of them in the ground and harvest them as main crop as well as second earlies?

Thanks in advance

Short answer is yes. I have grown Kestrel each year because they suffer little damage from slugs. They are an excellent potato and provide the overlap.

Kestrel will keep. I am still eating them. The advantage of second earlies over maincrop is that they bulk up early before blight.

I've left Kestral to grow on as well.  More through no time than any plan as such, but it worked well and they made a good early main crop  :)

They are a really good reliable spud that always seems to give a decent crop whatever  :)

I agree.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Marvelous. Thank you.  So if I leave some to harvest as a main crop, when do I dig them up?
