cheap bulk fertiliser?
« on: January 05, 2012, 16:30 »
Hi all. happy new year. ;)

I am only an allotment holder but would like to save some pennies by buying my fertiliser in bulk.  I have trawled the www. but to no avail.  i am trying to find a reputable suplier of bulk fertiliser  like a 25kg bag of growmore, superphosphate or bonemeal etc etc.

I Have a small allotment  ( 150ft x 25ft) in Wakefield.  Instead of keeping on buying small boxes of fertiliser i would like to save some cash (Yorkshire trait).   I have trawled for hours on www all to no avail.

Anyone any ideas?

Speak to your local lotty association, see if they can assist when they do a bulk order later in the season.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

What about one of the local tree/plant nurseries, the one I use for my BF&B, retails at just short of £25 for a £25kg sack, I get mine through work though, so it only costs me £22ish...  :D :D

It's a shame you don't want us to know which area you inhabit,  someone may have had a local resourse.   Try the local Agricultural supplyers, they sometimes have manure for sale on their notice boards.     Cheers,     Tony.

i don't think you would buy enough to get any real discount as 1 person, our shop on the lotty sells it fairly cheap anyway do you have a shop on yours.Theres a fairly large range of different fertilizer out, to buy a 25kg of each would take a shed on its own to store unless you can ask around on your lotty so you can share the cost  :)

Why not go to a local garden centre and find out who his supplier is?

Your local allotment association will be buying in bulk, why not try there.  To join a lotty assoc you don't need to have a lotty and usually a small subscription is all that's required to become a member

My local garden centre is always happy to order in big bags for me, whenever I ask. Not likely you'd get that sort of service from a chain store like Wyevale, but a lot of small local garden centres would do it.

Have a look on ebay for Maltbystores.
 30kg blood , fish and bone £27
 30kg Growmore .................£30
both prices include P&P and mine was delivered in 3 days.

Not as cheap as allotment association prices but still half the price of Wilko`s without getting the car out. :)

Where's that then? It seems a little meaningless if we have no idea where you are. :)
