growing swedes and parsnips

More than happy with this seasons leeks (Musselborough) and they've even remained standing despite all them high winds. Most of me sprouts ended up getting "blown" - I've tried removing the blown ones to see if the immature ones at the top of the stalk fare any better but I think I can write off all but 3 plants to be honest.

Onions were this years top crop Stutttgarter and Sturon - well impressed, every set produced a bulb.

Swede are looking a bit ropey - but roast quite well once prepped. My son can't get enough of them or the sprouts.

Snap. My parsnips are fab this year - once i managed to get them to germinate! My swede were a washout, again, and i am seriously thinking about not growing them again if they dont buck their ideas up next year!

Not sure what has caused it - i just thought it was me bing a bit pants when it comes to swede!

Hi Kate,  Looking at Nash's quote I may try growing them on some ground that I have not disturbed this year,  last year I sewed the seed on well dug loose ground so this year I will germinate at home and plant them out into firmer soil.  If that does not work I give up.
