too late to lime????
« on: December 30, 2011, 22:51 »
Hello all, hope Christmas has been good for all,

We are just starting to make some raised beds, getting ready for spring time yippee  :D

Yay 2nd year of allotement but first that Im not preggers or with new baby really excited about getting started properly.

Im just wondering tho have I left it too late to lime the beds that Im going to plant my brassicas in?  I had trouble with the few brassicas I planted last year (Thanks to a very kind fellow allotementer who gave me some spare plants!!!).  The bed im mainly using this year has had nitrogen fixers grown and dug in.  If its too late any other suggestions to help???

Thank you

No, some people add a dusting of lime to the planting hole when planting out the brassicas.

Just don't add manure and lime in close proximity of time or space.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi if you have club root plenty of lime where you are going to plant your brassicas.
Grow them them on until the roots are well developed this will help if you have club root on your plot,  :)

My clay soil is already has a Ph of about 7.5 so I haven't put any lime on (dug in some sand and some compost for drainage) but is there anything else I should put in to make sure my (prospective) brassicas have enough to munch on?
