I have recently taken on my first allotment and there are some raspberry canes on the site.
the canes are like actual cane rather than the green things I remember father growing. they are really like mini trees. are they any use for anything or should I just burn them up?

Mature cames are thidk and strong.

Don't cut them down yet as they might be summer fruiting ones that will flower on those canes.

Autumn ones (which will flower on new canes which will grown in the spring) should have some remains of old flowers or shrivelled fruit still  on the top of the canes.

Have a good look.

If you can't decide, let them be, as a forest of new canes will arrive in a couple of months if they are an autumn cultivar, and you can cut the old ones out then
