Hope you have found your post now Dennis  :)

This might sound a bit odd, but did you grown the plants for seed? I ask because I have had mislabelled mini plugs and I wondered if they are cabbage plants.

If they are definitely cauliflowers, check the seed packet to see when they should be ready. Different varieties are harvested at different times in the year

Do you mean that they opened up to flowering? There could be a million reason for that. Any stress during growth... Caulis are fussy, pay more attention to them next time.

It's been an odd autumn, stressing plants out in ways you wouldn't necessarily expect.

Did you really firm the plants in well when you planted them in the ground?

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Did they grow no cauli head and have died or have they just produced leaves but no heads?

If they still have plenty of leaves keep on waiting, caulis have a mind of their own. Check them every week, this mild weather may well trigger whatever sets them off.

Half of my Spring caulis headed in October, half of my Autumn ones are still waiting. All due to this strange weather, 13 degrees today.

Dennis, I've just found that your cauli problem could be due to a molybdenum deficiency. Your soil may be a tad too acid, and this can cause 'whiptail' in caulis, where the main growing point doesn't develop, and the leaves become stunted.

May be worth looking at this in more detail!
