Dig in manure or not
« on: December 12, 2011, 12:05 »
Just a quick one i hope. Should i dig in my manure which was put on my lottie last week.
Or should i leave it on the top for the worms to do there work,
The manure is about 12 months old i am doing  a beans/spud test at the moment beans look ok so hopefully no weedkiller in it  :) it was an old spud i found knocking about which had rooted put in a pot to check on weedkiller only about 2"tall at the mo....
Give me a sense of humor, Lord,
Give me the grace to see a joke,
To get some humour out of life,
And pass it on to other folk.
Happy new year to you all xx

Leave it on top, and dig it over in spring.

To be honest, I don't think it matters
Some rotavate or dig the manure in and some cover and leave
I have done both
The good thing about leaving it on top is that it will suppress the weeds
The worms will soon drag it down into the soil and then you can fork it in, early spring

Seedman - I'd be lead by what my soil is telling me rather than the manure - If you've heavy clay soil that would benefit from being turned over and frosted then dig it in - if not then wait until spring.
