Hiya Henwoman... personally I never stick to one supplier, I think it helps keep the costs down...  ;)

I tend to not buy off the bigger commercial suppliers as I think they are over priced and the quality is no different, why pay £1.50 a packet when you can get something for 99p or even less when places like Wilkinsons have deals on. I have bought some off ebay for next season (the link is in the thread argyllie has linked to) they seem to be recommended by a fair few people.

It depends what's on offer at the fifty pence a packet 'End Of Season Sale' at the garden centers

Me too. I hope to only have to buy a few odds and ends for next year now. This was my first year with an allotment and I went a bit seed daft whenever I saw a sale on. I don't think I will need to buy much for a good few years now.

I like Seeds of Italy, Real Seeds and Fothergills. Get stuff from Kings too via the allotment association and use Wilko too

Several of the "top" brands are owned by the same company if you read the address on the packet.

It is probable that much of the seed comes from one seed grower, especially newer F1 varieties that still have growers rights.

If you use old seed you may still get a good percentage germination but the plant vigour drops off and in adverse conditions this can mean failure.

I use D.T.Brown as they are P+P free, or Wilko.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I've ordered Kings this year, through our allotment site.  Much cheaper than DT Browns, T and Morgan etc.  I do however hunt down the bargains at Wilkos at the end of summer to cut down on what I order .

D.T.Brown and Fothergills are the same company.

But they don't have the same prices and with DT Brown P&P is free :)

Loads of Suttons seeds on ebay with a sow by date of 2012 @ 99p. The postage is pretty reasonable (70p) if you order multiples from his shop. Not sure what they're like though I wish I'd looked on there first! :-)
