Best place to position a cold frame?

I think this may have been touched on before but nowt came up in the search.

I got 2 of the cheapo argos frames for under a fiver each, they are tubular framed with pvc-ish cover, and skewers for fixing to the ground.

What's the best place to put them?  On soil or pavers?  The sunniest part of the garden will probably be the most exposed during the shorter daylight days.

The garden is long and south west facing.
