Leeks gone to seed...
« on: November 24, 2011, 20:49 »
Our leeks are well into their 'sell-by date' and some of them are wandering off to seed.

We usually just trim out the fatty stem, and use the leafy bits, but does anyone else use these centre stems at all?

Seems a shame to chuck them if they're OK to casserole, or use in the soup!

(And Mrs Growster's soups ae legendary, so any answers have to be tinged with caution, and a smile...;0)

Any ideas would be very welcome!

Growster.
I like you used the gone to seed for soups n stews n stuff.

I now use the leeks in a different way, take your gone to seed leek, chop into about 4inch lengths, push the hard centre piece out and you have a leek tube ready for filling  ;)

I have used several stuffing mixes (including the centre part whizzed up) and bake.

Kind of cannelloni but with leek instead of pasta, pour a nice chesseeeee sauce ontop and you have a nice meal.

Wow, what a great idea Aidy!

Never have thought of that, especially as we often have a cheese sauce at hand for them!

Swing Swang too - like the idea of a snag bunged in, that makes sense that does!
