I did once see a mushroom/toadstool that looked like it had stepped straight off the screen of a Walt Disney. It was a perfect round globe, bright red, with perfect yellow spots on it. Anybody know what that is?
Amanita Muscaria. Also known as Fly Agaric. Nothing else looks like it, so it's very easy to id. It's one of the 'naughty' mushrooms, much prized by shamans for it's hallucinogenic properties. Not poisonous, but very definitely NOT one to play with...

I can recommend Roger Phillips' mushroom books - they're very good if you want to try to identify species. He's got a website too - http://www.rogersmushrooms.com/

sorry sunshine but what you said isnt right. The touch and smell mean nothing. I have felt mush with a lovely smell and touch that would cook well - killers!

Its all about 100% identification and u said "no 3 wood Blewit edible". Bud you have to be soooo careful with mushrooms and funghi and 1 wrong ID could kill you!l 99 % is not good enough!

Get a good book, find loads and enjoy the journey.

Happy days

Mike

PS Not only sunshine but anyone that identifies mushrooms/funghi without being 100%.

:)))

I didnlt mean because mushroosm might smell tasty or feel like ones you buy in a supermarket. I meant because some have a unique smell or texture that helps identification
