Early Broad Beans
« on: November 20, 2011, 13:07 »
Hi, I planted my early Broad Beans in October for next years crop but due to the unusual mild weather I now have 6" plants, should I cover these or just let them continue as they are? HELP

I should leave 'em to grow on, but hold onto some plastic should the weather take a turn for the worst.

I've just planted out my 1st batch of broad beans, if anyone does this and finds the plants are a bit potbound, the roots are better teased out of the clump before planting in the'ole.      Cheers,     Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Sunshine's right, it depends where you are. In north Cumbria it's a waste of time trying to overwinter broadies but should be fine daarn saarf.

Thank you all for your help, it is very mild down here in the south and it has all got barmy, as well as Broad Beens well up I also have my onion sets growing away as well, last year I never see any of these when I planted them in Nov. 2010 until Jan 2011! good tip about the polythene being  ready just in case though!
