A sucker for Onions

Every year so far i have tried over wintering onions, loving planted the sets and left them to do their thing, so far i have been unsuccessful each time i say sod it am not doin them anymore, but still i keep trying........:)

Well, you will get varying results owing to many variables, eg the weather, the rain fall, snow, moles, rabbits, rats, birds hoiking them out the ground, etc    Sometimes they might rot but they won't all, so it's always worth carrying on if you love your onions.  Let's face it, it's the most used crop so don't be put off. Just make sure your soil is free draining. Add in some bonfire ash and homemade compost, leaf mould etc etc to lighten it if it's heavy.    Are you burying them too deeply perhaps?
