Hi all we have just built a fruit cage and are going to put raspberries blackcurrents and blueberrys in it. I have covered the floor area with a polythene membrane to stop any weeds coming through is it ok to do this as i am now wondering weather i,ve done the right thing

Polythene will not let any water through, or air to the soil.

Weed suppressant membraen would be better.

I use a four inch thick layer of dead leaves, which is free 

Toppped up every autumn. It solidifies OK and although some weeds do appear they are easily seen and removed
