The plot I've been working for about a year and a half now is in my OH's name.  I've had my name on the list now for a half of my own for quite some time and a half has come up!  I don't think the person who's top of the list is interested in it and I'm next, which means as long as while it's on the notice board for a swap, no one decides to swap theirs for it, it's mine!!

It needs lots of work as the last person who had it didn't grow on it.  Also, one of the longest serving allotmenteers on there told me he had to dig a lot of asbestos out of it years ago.  If I get it it's going to have its challenges, but whatch this space!!

  i didnt know you can get this!...now ontop of my oil/fuel filled soil i found pieces of asbestos from the garage roof (which was kindly removed before i moved in)...and they could affect the soil too!?!

Asbestos is pretty dangerous stuff by all accounts?  I sure as heck don't fancy picking it and eating it??

As far as I am aware asbestos is only regarded as 'dangerous' if asbestos fibres are likely to be released into the air and inhaled.
I have pulled many bits of the stuff from my plot, but it is normally caked in mud, so not really a danger.

Asbestos shoulds always be handled with care.
The really dangerous fibres are the ones that you cannot see, so you should never drill, file or rub two pieces together.
These very small bits get stuck in the lining of the lungs.
If you come across asbestos seal it inside 2 platic bags.
Contact your council waste disposal unit and they will give you an appointment to drop it off.
It should be free for households.

This is something that all councils should ban and remove from sites.
A lot more dangerous than carpet on plots.
