Spare runner beans...
« on: October 24, 2011, 06:32 »
We've got a few pounds of beans left over from the old pods, and some we're keeping for seed next year, as they were not an F1 variety. (I went mad on a late sowing, which works once in a while, and this year did work...)

Does anyone have any ideas for using them, as they're pretty bland unless they're 'spiced' up a bit!

Hi Mum...

Very rude of me not to say thank you for your reply!

I was just musing with Mrs G regarding the same position with even more beans this year, and of course, she suggested we look here!

Just one question regarding this super recipe: - could I freeze the mixture when cooked please?

Just keep doing what you have been doing for another few years and save the runner bean seeds.

Then find a clear plastic box or bucket, chuck 'em all in after counting each one   then run a -

"Guess the number of beans in the bucket"

stall at your local village fete, (all proceeds to go to the church roof)  ::)

Cheers,    Tony.

I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Ha ha ha Tony! Nice one! I collected all the unwanted LPs I could find one year, and sold them for the church roof! Went like hot cakes!

I've got this sort of fixation with beans, and just love them almost anyway cooked, but Mrs G is impartial, and tends to be more sophisticated...

I reckon Mum's recipe looks pretty damn good, and after all, it's only a baked bean recipe isn't it?
