Does Envoromesh have eyelets for steel pegs, and if not will the steel pegs damage the fabric? Or is it best to just bury the ends with soil?

Enviromesh and its near relatives are just plain sheeting cut to size;  I wouldn't recommend burying the edges with soil as you will need to lift it occasionally to weed.

My choice is metal or plastic pegs, but they are pushed into the soil so that the right-angled top holds the edge down (i.e. they're not inserted through the actual fabric.)

Metal pegs are probably better for unyielding soil - mine isn't!  :)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Not seen it in B&Q, but decent garden centres which sell various netting products cut from rolls (usually on a vertical display-cum-dispenser) usually have either enviromesh or a close relative (best to ring up first if it's any distance.)

(There's been a thread about buying enviro- and veggie- mesh online in the last few weeks - I'll let you look for that though!  ;))

Thanks JayG, I will have a look for that thread now  :)

The main reason I asked about B&Q was that if I go with my dad on wednesdays I can take advantage of his 10% off, plus I get 8% cash back on top of that  :D

That was a pretty good buy! Reduced or in a sale?

Do B&Q sell enviromesh?
I need to get on with making a cage or something for my carrots.

i put my enviromesh over the carrots on its own (with a bit of slack ) and bury the edges with soil and weight the corners with bricks.
works perfectly.dont waste wood on a cage...unless of course you want to :)

Just looked at John’s video and he doesn’t appear to use any mesh or tunnel.

If you mean this video:

http://www.allotment-garden.org/allotment-tips/thinning-carrots.php

He does say that he grows in barrels as he get better results than in the clay soil. He further says the height is supposed to deter the carrot fly, which he's found not to be the case, so therefore I take it the he's got a few fly.

You may not need protection, there's only one way to find out and that's to be willing to sacrifice your crop, or at least some of it. For me, after skipping 6 barrow of carrots in my first year, protection is a must.

Ignore carrot fly at your own peril!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I've just bought some Enviromesh and am wondering when is the best time to weed? i.e day or night, windy, wet or dry? Is it better to take the risk? What do you guys do?

when i feel like it - works for me :)

doesnt seem to matter to me too much.one i have found that speeds up the weeding is when you sow to draw a shallow drill as normal.then line it with compost, then when u do get a few weeds they pull out really easily.very handy when the carrot seedlings are small.
very quick to weed and then cover straight on again and bury the edges all the way round.
