Curtain netting may not be as good as fleece but it does help to keep frost off the plants.

I hated them. Left you with lines when you laid down. They were summer wear if I remember rightly.
By winter it was into good old (were they?) cotton vests. Hated those too!

It must be more than 40 years since I last wore a vest.
A sheet of newspaper will offer some frost protection until it gets wet.
It might be interesting to compare the performance of fleece, net curtain and newspaper.
