Chickens moving day.
« on: October 20, 2011, 14:23 »
Two of my lovely Brahma's are moving out into the big city  next week. We are taking my lovely big Brahma cockerel and one of his sisters to London as I can't keep any boy's here but didn't want him to move alone
They will be almost 18 weeks old when they move.
We plan on setting off quite early both to aviod traffic and so they sleep.
Any tips on the best way to transport them?

I usually transport my birds in cat carriers but a good sturdy cardboard box with air holes punched in is more than adequate  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Do be careful they don't overheat if it is cold and you have the car heater on, they get hot very easily.

Don't put them in too big a box as they may get bounced around and injured.

Don't forget to take some water and a bit of food for when you get there :D

As you are travelling a good distance I would stop on the way several times to at least offer water :)

Thanks for the tips, the chickens stayed on my lap (in a box) for the whole jurney and slept most of the way. We got to London in no time.
They seem happy in the new home with lot's of space to scratch in. I'mtold they are to be used as new blood for breeding so that's good too.  :)
