what a disappointment!  good yield good blight resistance- they've had foliar blight for months but tubers fine.
problem is they taste of nothing and have a texture like a mouthful of flour.
anyone had any success with these in the kitchen?
i wont bother with these again

I heard the same deneview......perhaps someone will eventually come up with a blight-resistant variety that actully tastes goo.
I tried Picasso for the 1st time this year and although the haulms were blighted (cut down 2 weeks later) the potatoes were fine...no blight and a superb flavour :D

Hi Deneview,  My harvest of Sarpo Mira was probably the best cropper and best flavoured potato of my 10 varieties planted.  It is indeed a dry floury potato but this is how lots of Scots like them, apart from Golden Wonders it will be the driest of the lot.  We have just had guests in to dinner who all remarked on the flavour and they should know as they were farmers and have grown potatoes for years. I will certainly be having them next year.  I am happy to report that I have had no problem with blight and like John have found that the slugs don't make much inroads th this variety.

I mentioned this in another thread somewhere.

I agree they are not the best flavour, but you can do worse.

What are the alternatives? Grow a crop that's going to get blight or won't store because of slug holes? Go to Tesco's and buy ones with even less flavour?

I like to try other varieties, but I know that Sarpo Mira will give me a good storeable crop.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

had them as mash last night- mixed with half swede- improves the flavour a lot, but still a very dry floury mash- strangely grainy texture, i must confess i prefer waxy potatoes and particularly maris piper for mash. still ive got a sack and a half to get through.
yes they were very slug resistant and blight was not too bad,
any suggestions for a blight resistant waxier type potato? i think i might not bother with a main crop next yr.

Not the best for flavour, I said before, but it should not be that bad as you say. Apart from variety there is soil and weather conditions, that will affect the starch- floury content of a potato. I can't remember details

Charlotte is NOT resistant but tolerant of blight, nice waxy mash
