grow bags
« on: October 18, 2011, 21:04 »
I have 10 grow bags which were used for growing my tomatoes and peppers, would it be possible to use the soil from these to put them on my vegetable patch or am I asking for trouble with diseases.

Did you have significant diseases on your tomatoes and peppers?

I'd say it is safe to reuse but not where you plan to grow spuds or tomatoes / peppers next year.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I re-use mine every year to top up the raised beds. However I find the compost gets a bit "dusty" so I always add some top soil and manure to give body.

I put it thru a sieve, mix it with sharp sand, add some BFB and use it to grow carrots in.

I am just about to plant some strawberry runners into mine to get some early crops next summer.  I will keep them in the greenhouse, feed them come spring and then remove the strawberries after cropping and empty the gro bags onto the veg beds when finished.

They need to have a spell of cold outside before being forced in the greenhouse. :)

Unless as already been stated, you,ve been unlucky with problems, it is safe to use to top up raisd beds. I dry some of my spent composts after I have lifted my dahlias, placed in fish boxes then use the dryish compost to put them to bed for the winter.
I used to work in a helium gas factory, but I walked out, no one talks to me like that.
