Quantity of Mixing of fluvenvet
« on: October 17, 2011, 22:37 »
Hi Folks.  I want to worm my girls but am a little confused to how much I can mix up in one go. I have 4 chooks.  I understand it is better to mix the flubenvet with a little vegetable oil so it sticks to the layers pellets. How much do I need to mix for 7 days and is it alright to mix a large amount with the oil and keep it for use over the 7 days or mix a small amount every day. Advice gratefully received. Thanks,   Pammie  ???

I usually mix 6g of Flubenvet 1% in 2 kg of feed and then see how many days that lasts to gauge how much I need for 7 days.  That way there is little wasted.

There is usually a little measuring spoon that comes with it - a level spoon is 6g and as ANHBUC says is enough for 2kg of feed.
I usually mix fresh each day, so I can guage how much feed (and medication) they are getting through each day.

Thanks for your replies but what I really want to know is if I can mix 2kg of layers pellets with a small amount of oil and keep that for the 7 days in a tub, or will it go off.  If I mix it daily how do I know how much flubenvet to add at a time.

I mixed mine with a small amount of oil and it should not go off if you are storing it in a cool dry place.  2kgs does not last long with my 6 hens though, they were eating over 1kg each per week in the summer even thought they were in a grass covered 30 sq meter enclosure.  If your 4 hens have a good appetite you will probably need to mix 2 batches of 2kgs for the 7 days.  Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, a lot clearer now.  I did worm them in the spring but did not mix it with oil so was not sure if they had enough of the flubenvet.  Am going to try this method now.
Thanks again.

Best to do them every 3 months I think.  Prevention is better than cure, so I'm told!  ;)

Hi mo and welcome to the forum.  Don't know where you are but I intend on worming mine with flubenvet in December which is my winter just to keep up the 3 monthly routine of prevention.   :)

Hi there, I used to find worming a bit worrying when I was adding it to their normal food - I could never tell who had had what?  I now worm them by adding some flubenvet to some corn of the cob (I have 5 greedy girls) and then split it up into 5 piles and they queue up outside the greenhouse for their daily fix.... works a treat  :D
