how to bottle tomatoes etc
« on: October 16, 2011, 23:58 »
Its too late for me to bottle tomatoes this year especially after the terrible crop I have had this year but for next year  -

My memories of bottled tomatoes that Mum did was in the kilner type jar but reading the posts here, can I actually bottle in re-cycled sauce jars and if so, what do you do once bottled.  Are the bottles simmered in boiling water and if so for how long.

I make lots of jams and chutneys each year but for some reason, bottling just seems alien to me and each year I make passata and tomato sauce and stuggle for space in the freezer so any tips to keep the freezer space is very much welcomed.

Thank you very much.  I knew there was a post here somewhere but couldn't find it

That doesn't look too difficult.  Apart from freezer space I think its much handier to have jars of sauce and saves the trip to the garage when its cold to get to the freezer.

I'll let you know how |I get on next year - Tomato crop being better?
