What type of Rasps are Tulameen?
« on: October 11, 2011, 10:59 »
I have just bought a raspberry Tulameen plant as it was £1.50 from M*******s

I have looked around for infromation on it and it all says it's a late season variety, but it also says to cut the previouse years growth to the ground once fruited to alow the new growth for next years crop!

So that sounds to me like a summer fruiting variety rather than an late season autum fruiting type!

Can someone clear this confusion up for me please?

Andy

It's a floricane.

You'll get fruit on the shoots produced the previous year. Only the cane that have fruited should be cut out.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

So basically i should treat it like a summer fruiting type.

Tie in the new growth so the fruit comes the next year.

Please excuse my ignorance as i've only ever grown Autum arieties before.

Well thats good to hear, our 7 year old has just begun eating them and says she prefere's them to her previouse favourite, the Strawberry.

I may go and buy the other plant thats left, at £1.50 can't go wrong.

The stems are not completely smooth but they are not too bad. Certainly haven't done any damage to us
