... it depends what kind of pumpkin it is.

Because last year I waited and waited for mine to go orange and it never did.  Why not?  Because it was an Austrialian Blue Pumpkin ... so it went silver!

This year I made sure I had planted the right ones and they started turning a couple of weeks ago.  Are now pretty much all orange.

. Austrialian Blue Pumpkin
Wehre do you get your seed for these, Wellingtons? She usually grows Crown Prince, but liks to try unusual pumpkins.
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

... by another allotmenter as seedlings.  They were delicious, silvery blue in colour and sort of flattened rather than round.

That sounds like my crown prince pumpkins. Mine aren't superbig but i hadn't been watering them much earlier in the season. They're about half blue already.
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.

Different Coloured Pumpkins The blue pumpkins on that page look more lumpy than the crown prince kind to me. Mine are pretty and lumpfree.
The red one on that page is really amazing. I wonder if I can find some seed for that variety here.
