Moved Strawberry Question
« on: September 30, 2011, 10:26 »
Hi all, been sorting out my strawberries this week, I had tried to pot up all the runners during the summer but something ate the pots (not the runners or the compost, just the plastic potts!) so all the babies have rooted anywhere they liked, (under fences, in flowerbeds, in the lawn....)so have dug everything up, split up all the larger plants into two veg beds and have lots of little plants in pots, I did read something on here the other day about cutting the leaves off once they are finished fruiting, should I do that now the've just been moved and some are in pots?
whadda think?

I'd leave the leaves on.  Just discard the old yellowing ones.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

ditto.... any "old" leaves just trim off and leave for now....

Cutting the plants back is the usual process BUT thats done usually in July-ish after fruiting has finished, by now they would have re-grown nice fresh new leaves that will over winter (like mine!) Remember, strawberries are tough as old boots so no need to cosset.....
