has anyone used smoke bomb to get rid of mite problem
« on: September 29, 2011, 21:15 »
hi just wondering if anyone has used the smoke bombs you use in your greenhouse to get rid of bugs, i read on another forum that the mites get use to certain methods we use to get rid of them and this person used the smoke bomb she uses in her greenhouse and she said it worked getting rid of mites in her chicken house, you have to sit it on foil and then light it and close all doors and let the smoke work into all the crevices, after 2 hours open up the door clean and replace the shavings of your chicken coop and then it's safe for the chickens to go back.
just wondering if anyone has tried this method.

I thought about using this method but I coudn't find anyone around here that stocked it, so  I used diatom earth and poultry virenza (not expecting it to work) but found it worked really well.  Therefore I'd also be interested in any answers to this query.
The glass is neither half empty or half full - it is simply the incorrect size! Find a new glass!

We used them in our biggest henhouse which is 32ft long.  The first ones didn't get rid of them all, so we got an even bigger one and that sorted them out!  They were dropping out of the boards at the back of the shed like a waterfall.

I hadn't realised we had the mite in that house, because they weren't around the perches, but up in the tongue and groove boarding at the back of the house.

But no more chickens in that shed anyway.

Yes I have used the smoke bombs you use for clearing the greenhouse sulphur based, I used mine for my cage birds that I used to keep, first I cleared all the birds and seed out closed all openings and lit about half a dozen as it was quite a big shed left it for about 24 hrs and then opened it up for a further 24 hrs before I let the birds back in it worked a treat, Mike
