This year I had successful harvests of Lautric wight, solent wight and solent purple. they all smell great.

grew elephant garlic which produced massive heads but tastes bad. only grow it if you want a novelty plant.

All the garlics recommended are hardneck, which do better in the specific daylight hours of the UK.

I too grow Music and mine are as large as DD's. The secret is lots of rotted chicken manure at planting time, keep well weeded, and watered as needed.

According to my my catalogues Purple Wight, Solent Wight, Iberian Wight, Jolimont and Germidour are all softneck garlic.  :blink:

I planted Elephant garlic a couple of years ago.  Mine turned into cloves.  Strange that maybe its a variety thing.  Loved it gorgeous flavour.  Putting some more in this year.

Last year garlic was one of my successes and trying this year Thermidrome, Germidour, Cristo and Marco.

What I really liked was that I just got it out in time to put in some cabbages plants so worked really well in keeping the plot full

Elephant garlic is down to a matter of taste.

I grew it once and was badly disappointed. If you do grow it, don't expect to to taste of garlic, it's a complete misnomer!

That's right. The first search result returned, for the website of a supplier whose name might rhyme with onions......

My best garlic always comes from Music as well. I've tried many in the past, but Music always comes through for taste, size and reliability.
