glyphosate flavoured couch grass
« on: September 25, 2011, 20:12 »
I have made 2 new beds this year for next summer the couch was so thick i gave it a dose of weedkiller. You are supposed to be able to plan straight after its killed the weeds. my question is what should i do with the couch roots i dig out of them, can i compost them put them in the green waste bin at home or better to burn them?

I'd dig them out, just in case they're not quite dead  ::) and for that reason..I wouldn't compost them...other than that..it's whatever is easiest  ;)

Ta, i am going to dig them all out, wouldnt have killed them but they were a solid mat  & about a foot tall. Think I'll burn them at least something goes back in the soil

If the couch was showing signs of dying off after spraying, then the roots were dead. Glyphosphate works from the tip of the root up, so you only see the plant deteriorate after the root is brown bread. Would be a leap of faith the rotavate it back in though i reckon!

If there are patches of green it is either where some of the roots had no leaves showing at the time of spraying, or else your sprayer missed them.

I would re-spray the patches before you dig. You will need to wait another 10 days or so but I am sure it would well worth while.
