Been and gone and done it !
« on: September 21, 2011, 17:47 »

I've been sidetracked and now have a layer of damsons stuck to the base of my preserving pan.  Rats ! ! !

Before I take it to the shed and attack it with a rotary wire brush on my 'lecky drill, anyone got an easy method of removal?     Cheers,     Tony.

This doesn't totally ride the burn but it helps. I add water and put the pan on to boil for about 15 minutes, then set aside to cool. A lot will come off by scraping with a short, sharp bladed knife. Might have to repeat a few times.

adding a little biological washing powder to the water when boiling will also help  :)

All suggestions, hints and wrinkles greatfully received.    (I'm leaving it to soak overnight).    ::)    Maybe the fairies will clean it for me, or my beloved after her evening shift.  . . . . . . . I think I have more chance with the fairies !     :D       Cheers,     Tony.

Try a dishwasher tablet in hto water, then let it get cold before tackling it with a short bladed blnt knife or an old spoon.

I think all the remedies using water etc will work better than your B and D, Tony.

I used to think that brute force would do the job, but luckily learned the hard way, soon after we were married...

I'd been making beer in our spanking new Le Creuset casserole, and it burnt the inside to oblivion. Mrs G nearly became the ex Mrs G at that point...

If all that doesn't get it all off try scrubbing it with some sand that should sort it.

Biological washing powder & warm water & a long long soak.

Whenever you're passing, jiggle gently around the patch with the trusty blunt-ended knife or a scouring pad to release loosened stuff & give the bio space to start on the next bit.

Tis sparklin' clean again.   Boiled up some 'Bold' in about a pint of water and left it.   The kitchen smelt 'reeeeely nice and flowery'. ::)

As it was boiling I could see the corners of the black stuff curling up.   Last remaining bits came away easily with a bit of 'Jockbrite' this morning.        Cheers,     Tony.
