I use the low setting, but you can always experiment - high for shorter time, low for longer? 

My kids reckon that slow cooker porridge is more filling as the oats have longer to swell up.

Better than I could say it Manic!

It all depends on the power in the thing as well, but you don't want the stuff to boil dry in any event!
