I start it in an 8" pot and set it in a spot that gets "no sun/full shade" once it's germinated to a pair of true leaves i prick it out into 3" pots then as soon as i see roots at the bottom of the pot i plant out with 10" between plants again in as much shade as i can give them.

I water well never alowing them to become over dry and we pick them as and when we need them.
We usually get a couple of months out of each sowing before the bolt but by this time we have the next lot ready to go in.
We only have 10 plants on the go at any one time along with the other salad stuff and that provides us with more than enough for salads and sandwiches.

Alas though due to time constraints this year we have been buying all our salad items, but this is how we have done it in the past and how we will be doing it in the future.

I know it is warm for the time of year, but mine is still growing outside, and will carry on until it is really cold..............and I've started some in the greenhouse to pick then.

Mine survived the winter uncovered last year, and in the end this year we were giving it away by the bagful -- 8 plants 

They had a huge deep taproot too
