Tomatoes
« on: September 11, 2011, 13:53 »
I've just followed Monty Don's advice from Friday's FW and removed all the leaves from my tomatoes which I'm told will help them ripen quicker.

But, do I still need to give them the same levels of water and feed?

I'd continue to water but I'm not sure about feed - it's a bit late in the season to continue stimulating flowers, which is what tomato feed does.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Give them less water.  Just keep the soil slightly moist.

I didn't realise that. I've continued feeding mine because I always thought you needed to feed the fruit as well. Well that's one less chore to do :)

Best read this NVS article then.

It says to feed throughout the season, both for show and table tomatoes!

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

He also says to feed them with liquid sheep's manure, but I think I'll give that a miss :)

I used to do that.

Then Mrs Digger put her foot down with a firm hand.  :(
