My rooftop Greenhouse....
« on: September 10, 2011, 18:57 »
I've now finished installing my greenhouse on my flat roof lottie... I was given it and then my gardenshare plot fell through... so..... It is now on my roof!! and has some kitchen vinyl floor that was skipped by my neighbour.. I will do some imported seeds that need some extra heat to grow!!

That's very imaginative of you.

Will it stand up to strong winds up there?

Hope so.

Yes, do make sure it is incredibly well fixed.

Another thought that occurs - have you checked the structural load of the flat roof for weight bearing limits?  They are often not designed for heavy loads on top - and wet compost can weigh quite a bit.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Yes it is tied down on all 4 corners... I have had ALL my veg pots and tubs and the roof last year and it stayed up so I hope it will be ok... I'll be carefull on the amount of big pots inside...

Very impressed - well done you.  Presumably it benefits from the heat in the room below going upwards during the winter months?  Excellent idea.   8)

What do your neighbours think of it?

Neighbours love it... we get on really well and they are also "sweetened up" with free veg from time to time..

No benifit from heat from the room below as it isn't heated... I'd love to put a flue pipe through the greenhouse from my central heated chimney which is 2 feet away!! just apply a bend to the chimney, then a pipe through the GH, another bend on the outdside and its got its own central heater!! i might even do it one day!!!   :D :D
