Nelly - Sudden death.

 

Went to the hen house this morning. Nelly did not come out. Went to the other door... Nelly stiff as a post!

Been to the vets to get a post mortem. They said she died of a large blood clot in her abdomen and was otherwise healthy with no sign of worms or anything. (I had wormed them recently)

I feel really bad because it might have been something I have done? Does anyone know what might have caused this?

They said there was no bruising or injurys on the outside of her body so it is unlikely to have been the other hens although that would still remain a possibility.

I am not sure of her age as she was given to me by my neighbour but guess about 3 years. She was still laying regularly.
