Thanks for the good wishes - yes it will be so much appreciated when we finally do get an egg!  My husband opened a book over a month ago - but we even lost interest in that!!!

Good news! I'm going to exchange him for at least one hen later this week!  The supplier is very happy to take him back and I'm looking forward to seeing which breeds she has - usually quite a range...  I'll let you know when I get back!

Hooray!! Our first egg appeared this morning!!! We are so excited - a beautiful, white, perfectly formed egg from our Leghorn hen...  Thanks to everyone for all the help, advice and support - patience IS a virtue!

Oh what a perfect little egg!  :D

I really didn't appreciate how beautiful eggs are until I started making my own (with a little help of course).  Congratulations!

Congratulations the first egg is very special, I couldnt eat any of my girls eggs for about three months, which sort of defeated the object of having them....

I just felt I was stealing from them

Now I say thank you to them for every egg and enjoy the organic eggs and Know that they come from happy hens

Hope your eggs will be plentiful
if wishes were changes.......

Feelingbroody, I've never had a problem eating my chickens' eggs but I've just discovered others do!  I sometimes give eggs to friends and the Dad of the family has asked if I could please not write the chooks' names on the shells any more!

His 3-year-old daughter loves it and asks for a 'Phoebe egg' or an 'Elsie egg' for breakfast, but Daddy says he feels terrible knowing the name of the donor and would prefer they stayed anonymous!

[P.S. I'm not going to stop doing it]

glad im not the only one waiting for the first egg!!

we brought a POL hybrid (ginger spice, 17 weeks old) to go with a random black bantam that arrived in our garden and we couldn't find the owner of, this was about 3 or 4 weeks ago now and still no egg from her.  Her comb is still very small and not very red so don't think shes anywhere near ready :o(

My poor hubby spend hours and lots of pounds on the coop, second bigger coup for them to play in and the run to keep it dry as I was worried she wasn't comfy and feeling at home, so I really hope she lays her first soon, but am thinking from what i've been reading that due to the time of year and wearther changing she may not now lay till spring   !!!!!
