I can understand those of a Buddhist persuasion who think that all life is precious, and I don't actually like killing things either, but I can't quite understand the distinction between drowning slugs in beer (which you apparently do) and disrupting their digestive system with ferric phosphate organic pellets (which you obviously object to.)

If you can show me any evidence that the organic pellets harm anything (including the environment), other than slugs and snails I will gladly concede your point, but as it stands at the moment you seem be choosing to continue to complain about a gardening problem which does actually have a solution.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

many slugs spend most of their lives under ground (those you are finding above ground are just the tip of the iceberg) so they would have been there before your greenhouse.
As for protecting your crops without using anything that will kill them all I can suggest is that you go out there every night with a torch and bucket and collect them up by hand - where you will dispose of them I haven't the faintest idea, but it would be unfair to put them anywhere where they are likely to infest somebody else's property.
Staffies are softer than you think.

At least beer kills them reasonably quickly and more pleasant than pellets.

Beer's taking it's time with me, although I admit I've not tried the pellets yet.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

If we are all agreed that you will continue doing what you want to do and ignore all the advice freely given then there is no need to continue this thread. I'm thinking of locking it, any reason to continue with it?

Hi hubballi,

Like you, I don't like killing things either, and I haven't used any chemicals for numerous years now.
Apart from slug pellets. Now that the organic ones are available which only target slugs and snails, and not birds, frogs, or anything else, I'm more than happy.
The organic pellets, tend to make them feel ill, and they crawl away somewhere to die. So you don't even have dead bodies laying about.
Other than that, there is not a lot more I can say  :)
Cheers, Comfortably Numb.

I'm just off down the greenhouse. I won't be long ..........................

I'm locking this now as it's an exercise in futility.
