Bindweed
« on: August 20, 2011, 07:52 »
I know this has been done before and I apologise, but I'm sure I read on here about killing the stuff by putting the tips in jars containing something or other. Can you point me in the right direction as I am getting very tired of digging it up. Ta

You only need to do the jar tip if there is a risk to other plants from spraying the weedkiller on it - otherwise you can simply spray as usual.

If you do need to do the jar tip, dilute the glyphosate according to the instructions, put it in a jam jar or similar, put the growing tips into the liquid and, if possible, secure them in there for a few days.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

This method is suitable for (attempting to ) eliminate marestail.  After bruising the stems drown them in a jar so the liquid is drawn up into the plant.    Cheers,    Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

I haven't seen the other posts on bindweed either.
But we have had it around and in the garden here for years.
But it is nowhere as bad as it once was.
Keep pulling and taking it out whenever you see shoots.
Bindweed, like any other plant needs to grow and feed for the next
year. Keep pulling it out and you deprive it of nourishment for next year.
Plus the weed killer of course.
Rats, or horses tails are a different proposition altogether!

Thanks all for replying. Only problem with the digging part of it, apart from how much bindweed is there, is I never seem to be able to get it right down to the root.
