Manure safety?
« on: August 12, 2011, 12:25 »
My husband has bought 3 bags of manure to dig into one of our plots but I remember reading something on here a while ago about something being in manure that ruins your ground, something in what the cows or horses eat that's not good?? But I can't remember exactly what it was!
He has got it from Scats, and it's the brand West... (can't remember the last part). Would this be okay to use? I don't want to ruin anything before we start!
Thank you!

Hello, manure is safe to use, i use it all the time to add nutrients to my soil, but don't add your young plants to the soil yet, manure burns new plants let the soil rest for a few days ::)

Have a read of this, it might answer your question.  Not all manure is safe to use.

Is it safe to assume that branded manure is safe? I wonder what the manufacturers would say?
It will be already well rotted if you decide to use it.

I have just e-mailed Westlands, I'll let you know what they say..............................

Westlands have replied................

Many thanks for your email. We test all our farmyard manure for aminopyralid and therefore can be sure that it is not present in any of our products.

Kind regards
