What variety are they? Not F1 saved seeds, by any chance?  How/where are you growing them? How much are you watering them?

They should be hot, you're right!  You say you are only watering when they need... the other quite good thing to do in treating them mean is to keep them in pots as the roots being contained makes them a bit worried.  :D We grow them in two litre pots - about seven inch across - and the only ones we have this year which are not coming out hot are the ones grown from saved Apache seeds. Apache is an F1 and saved seeds won't grow true. At the time we were given those chillis, I didn't realise these were F1.

Hope some of this helps.  :)

As Argyllie says the trick with Chillies is to be nasty to them, the crueller you are the greater the revenge they try to get you with!

SO it may be a case of being really nasty and getting them worried by etting them dry right out a wilt a bit.

Also many get hotter as they get riper so leave them the plant for as long as you can.

Good luck!
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....
