composting
« on: August 06, 2011, 12:08 »
Hi everyone,

It is my first year with allotment, it proved to be a lot of hard work, enjoyment and even some rewards in broad beans, carrots and marrows. So far so good, I am still learning. Now my marrow plants seem to be badly affected by powdery mildew and broad beans got rust on leaves. Does anyone know if I can still compost the foilage or dig it into the soil? It seem a pity to throw it away...

Regards,
Nataiva

I tend to bung it into the compost bin (but probably shouldn't  ::) )
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

So do I and it seems to do no harm next time around  ;)

I try to put dodgy plants in a separate compost heap that is used around the flower borders (don't tell the wife) :D. The good quality stuff I compost for the veg plot. :)

Thanks everyone, I thought I would use it as well. Too much of plant matter not only not to use but to think as well how to get rid of it. Anyway, who knows how many nasties my plot has got already, how it was treated before I got it.
