« on: August 06, 2011, 08:36 »
Good morning all, to my horror I have found a worm in the chooks poo, only the one mind but that was enough to turn my stomach. I had a look at the poo pic's on the site and very easily seen its a round worm so Im off to get some more worming med's, before I do I have a couple of questions to ask you...can I still eat the eggs (chickens of course), tho I have to say I dont fancy any now & does it mean I have done something wrong I wormed them all last month and previous months, they are eating a lot of snails??? by the way the gilrs seem fine in themselves xx ???

buy some flubenvet - this actually works the other stuff has no proof it does work. Flubenvet is authorised for poultry and there is no egg withdrawal  :D.

Hi it is up to you but there is no harm to you consuming the eggs that the chickens have already laid.

Go right ahead and eat the eggs, ginarina.  They will be fine. :)

You've done nothing wrongfor tyour chickens to get worms - they are present in the soil and in the droppings of wild birds, so your chickens will definitely pick them up.  Good on you for noticing the worm in their droppings so now you can treat with Flubenvet and get rid of them.

People on here recommend treating them every three months if your chickens are free-ranging as they will continue to pick up worms as they forage around.

You mentioned that they eat a lot of snails - snails and slugs are known carriers of worms. Do worm them with Flubenvet but continue to keep an eye on the droppings in between when you worm them to make sure they haven't picked up more.

:) Thank you again to you all. My girls have been wormed and are looking beautiful as always, they are still eating every snail they can possibly find but now I am keeping a very close eye on their poo...what we do for love ::)
