Pumkins are yellow

I have 5 Pumpkin plants on my plot and some of the pumkin are yellow and some are green is this normal. Some of the green ones have now started to go orange.

I'm sure at least some varieties of pumpkin are supposed to be yellow.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Have the leaves died? One usually harvests pumpkins after the leaves have died and the fruit has had a bit of a chance to ripen. they also keep well in a cool dark place for use later in the season.
A friend of hers had already eaten some butternut squashes - still green stripey and the friend says they were very nice.

she has eaten plenty of unripe marrows and courgettes and custard squashes (patty pans), but she has never eaten an unripe pumpkins. Maybe they won't taste like much until they are ripe?
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

If these are "baby" pumpkins no more than an inch across, they're just dead. Remove them and compost them... they should just come off in your hand. These are just pumpkins that weren't fully fertilized or the plant just decided not to continue those baby pumpkins for whatever reason.

You don't say if the leaves have died. Also, what variety are they? CD size now are a bit small, unless they are meant to be that size - like jack o' lantern which are small and are supposed to be bright orange when ripe.

If the leaves are still going strong leave them alone for a bit longer.

when do pumpkins go orange . with ours the size is there about 47" around the belly but its still yellow does it all happen at the end?

Hello , I'm new to the forum.  Cut our first butternuts on Sunday, they are yellow with very pale green stripes, nice size and weight, have put them on a sunny windowsill to ripen/cure.  Hope we haven't harvested them too early.  There are masses on the seven plants we grew from seed, so will experiment and leave some on the vines longer to see which is the better method.  It's a good thing we like roasted butternut as we'll be having lots of it :D

went to plot last night and noticed my largest pumpkin is a darker coulour than the smaller ones,i think its changing colour

I too have recently harvested my cobnuts (very similar to butternuts) and Baby Bear pumpkins and put them on a window sill, I don't think it's too early if the plants are dying down and the fruits look as though their ripening.  I always worry that if I leave them in situ for too long some light fingered being on two legs is going to come along and help themselves or the local yuf-of-today might take it upon themselves to have a kick-about, which has sadly happened in previous years although fortunately not with my veg.

Had the first of our butternuts tonight, roasted with carrots and fennel, it was  delicious.  Quite the best we've ever had.  Not as thick or dark skinned as supermarket ones, nor as orangey fleshed but the proof was in the eating.  Brilliant :D  The rib of beef was pretty good too :)
