Rhode Star not laying
« on: September 19, 2007, 16:34 »
I've recently purchased 6 POL ( a mixed batch of sussex lights and other breeds) - 5 of which are now happily laying 4 eggs a day between them and have been doind so for the last 3 weeks. However the little Rhode Star who is now 22/23 weeks old has shown no sign of laying. I've not even seen her sitting in a nest box or showing the slightest interest in them.  Her comb isn't that red either (although as she is the only Rhode Star I can't compare it with the same breed but compared to the others it's a lot paler).  She's perfectly healthy, eating for England but being slightly smaller than the other Sussex breeds is a little bit picked on but only insomuch as she is pushed aside at food time.  She certainly isn't going hungry.  Any ideas??

Many thanks - Kym

She just sounds immature to me.  Give her time and she'll lay when she's ready  :D

Are you sure she's as old as the other Kym?

We've had our 12 POL Goldlines and Amberlinks for almost a month now, and today I got my first egg!!!!, but none of them would tell me who laid it!!!!    :D

well the seller told us they were all 16 weeks but as I said she is the only Rhode Star so I guess she could be younger than the others.  She is slightly smaller but I'm not sure if she meant to be!

Oh well as Aunty said - she may just be immature.  Do you ever get 'barren' chickens that never lay??  Whatever happens she won't be going anywhere - she's a well established part of my family now - I never realised that I would get so attached to them in such a short space of time.  Even my friends keep popping in with veg scraps for them - I think they only come to see the girls and not me anymore  :(

hate to ask, but what exactly is 'tea'? not the drink, the meal/snack thing.
-If life gives you lemons find someone who got vodka and have a party
-If it doesn't fit;force it. If it breaks; you needed a new one anyway
-Borrow money from pessimist; they don't expect it back

You can either eat:

Breakfast - Lunch - Dinner

OR

Breakfast - Dinner - Tea

Then there's 'cream tea', 'afternoon tea' and 'high tea' (all different)

Some people have Supper too

I wonder if its based on where you are in the country or maybe its a class thing?  I'm in Devon and my family have Breakfast, Dinner and Tea and everyone I know does too - unless they are posh! (which we definately are not lol)

Oh dear - as I started this with the 'T' word I guess I ought to explain what we do in this family.

We have breakfast, lunch and then the children have tea if I'm home from work  in time and can get them fed and in bed early ....then me and other half sit down and have dinner - in peace and quiet!
