Blight maps
« on: July 31, 2011, 23:12 »
Last year I used DD's link to look at the blight map but it isn't available now.
My toms were held back by the cold and although they're taking off now I have loads of flowers, not much fruit and have only just got the first Sungold.
For the last 3 years blight has hit here in August and it would be good to know how it's moving across the country. We have humid, warm weather expected this week.
Not that the knowledge will make any difference to the crop!! Can't hurry them on, can I? ::) :(

Hi Vietta, someone asked about this the other day.  Apparently the website is down or something, but Aunt Sally will reinstate the link as soon as she knows its okay again!

The blightwatch pages are working OK it's just the maps which are down. If you register (free) with them, they email you if there is a threat in your postcode. It seems to be southeast Scotland, south Wales and I think Cornwall which have been hit so far.

Thanks Willie, I had just spotted that too. For those who aren't familiar, we have a link to the map in question from this forum FAQ thread:

Looks like we are in for a few days of high temps and high humidity so just watch those red blobs grow.

It was an excellent idea to have the maps under news. This seems to have been replaced by something about show photos which should be under "Show Bench" anyway.

and why shouldn't there be a reminder about photos for the  "Show Bench"  ::)

The Blight link is in a few places on the site, and you can always sign up and get warnings direct by e-mail, if you're that worried  ;)

The link to the maps was taken off the news as the site was down so it was pointless having the link there.

I'm sure it'll be re-instated now they're back.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

The site is back on line again so the map link is again in our news banner - second item.

Thanks folks! No wonder I couldn't get linked through if the map was down!
Didn't really want to see it....confirmed outbreak up the road in Pompey (I think) Better feed up those teeny toms or I won't have a crop!! :( :(
