Not mentioning the 'C' word but.....
« on: July 28, 2011, 13:53 »
The turkeys are now a week old and doing well!  Also I think I have sussed this lot out as to which are stags and which are hens!  I could be wrong, but that's nothing new!

I've noticed before that some of the poults have very sticky out wings, but originally thought they were disfigured!  But I think the ones with sticky out wings are the stags, as twice in the past week I've noticed some of them 'displaying' and each time it was one of these ones, and not the poults with the 'tidy' wings!  if you know what I mean!

Yes Joy, you only have to look at who I live with!!

However, saying that, usually in the bird world, the males look a lot more colourful than the females!  And I must say that although the turkey males and females are the same colours, when the stags display, they do look magnificent!  Unless they happen to be moulting!

I think at first Rachel, people say oh I couldn't eat something that I've seen running around your garden, which my Nici used to say, still does actually, but she never says no to a nice hand reared turkey for her Christmas dinner!

Once people get their heads round the fact that they know the turkey has had a lovely life (and death!) and how wonderful they taste, other factors get forgotten!
