So, last night I discovered why I'd not seen any squash on my butternut plants...they're flipping cucumbers. V annoyed (despite the fact that as cuke's they're doing quite well) as I already have three cukes growing indoors at home.

Anyway, the two plants were both bought from Dobbies and marked up as butternut. squash. But there's a bit of a pattern brewing as my dad's marrow plants, again bought from Dobbies turned out to be courgette. And the tomato plants I bought from Dobbies have been very poor, vs plants brought on from seed/from other garden centres yet kept in the same condition (and the same variety).

I've also had a feeling that seed pots we've grown from Dobbies have been poor (low yield and also badly affected by scab). I'm going to know Dobbies on the head for next year and source elsewhere. I just wondered if anyone else had had 'issues'??

I got my seed pots from Dobbies this year and the quality has been great. Yealds are lower than last year but I put this down to the climate this year rather than the seed stock.
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!

My neighbour bought veg plants from several outlets and they've all been dire :(

She managed to get her money back a few times.

The 'courgettes' will turn into marrows.......there's no difference when small, so why do you think that you've got courgettes and not marrows?

and I agree with aelf about the potatoes, this year hasn't been good for them.

it's easy to avoid them in future though, isn't it :)

oh yes, i'll find it pretty easy to avoid. just seemed like a bumper load of cock ups!

and i'm going to challenge you on the courgettte/marrow thingy....a baby marrow and a baby courgette for example are two very different looking things (i'll take some snaps to illustrate) ;)

I bought 12 raspberry canes from them and none grew.

Bought potatoes from them and they were great :)

Don't tell me... a baby courgette looks like a small courgette, and a baby marrow looks like a courgette!  ;)

not happy with their seeds
1. shallots came with just shells
2. sweetcorns germination 20%
3. beans all wasted (put down to weather)
4. aubs went great guns and then stopped growing.
5. trail blazer plum tree is not even got 10 leaves in it.  :(

Did anyone complain?

I really can't complain about my potatoes so far. The rocket I've had have had a wonderful crop.

my courgettes, Striato d'Italia        look just like that, if I don't pick them quick enough

What did the ones your dad got look like then, if you're sure they're courgettes and not marrows?

Have a look at courgettes or marrows?

We bought a load of cauliflower plants from Dobbies and they were rubbish, either didn't produce any heads or the heads went to seed when they were still very small. I did post a question on here about the problem and it seemed to be a common problem this year with a lot of people, so poss not Dobbies fault.
