« on: July 25, 2011, 14:07 »
Hi there Iam Dee and my partner Pete have started out, We would love to become self sufficent but living in a town, we can only use the garden at the moment, Its so exciting..!!!! Every morning we go outside to see what treasure have sprung up... For the past few weeks we have built a pont and transformed 3 flower beds into, Hopefully fruitful veg beds, We are new to this, And just planted bits every where, I wasnt sure where to start, So any advice would be great, We are doing ok on the herb front, & BQ had a terrific sale on there peppers, Toms, onions, herbs Many other veg plants, they all needed rescuing hence the price between 10p - 25p. Any advice would be magic, as i dont know many veg growers here in clacton.... Iam waiting in my wellies...!!!

You'll find all the answers you need right here gipsipink. My advice is dont try to much at once, grow what you will eat and dont get stressed if things fail.

good luck.
R.I.P Bobby Smiler Smith......love you always little fella.

Welcome to the site  :D

Your various plants will have different cultivation needs, so need to be treated differently.

Tomatoes and peppers are annuals and need feeding with a tomato fertiliser once the first flowers have dropped off, leaving mini fruits behind to develop.

Herbs don't need a huge amount of feeding.

Onions can be harvested for immediate eating any time, but if you want to store them, then wait until the foliage has fallen over and died down properly.  Then dry, dry a bit more, dry some more, and then dry more again!

Probably best to ask individual questions on separate threads so nobody gets confused  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

With your forenames you should bring out some form of embrocation - wintergreen perhaps ! ! ! ::)    Cheers,  ::)  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !
